Regular viewers of this blog would know that I have posted about the food I have had and enjoyed from the Madison Street restaurant, the fine dining restaurant located near Kazhakuttom that was started by the Mahansas team… As mentioned in the previous post, though I had been enjoying their food by ordering home deliveries, I couldn’t visit the restaurant when I first heard about the place cause of the pandemic situation… Even after that, various engagements kept me too occupied and long story short, I finally got the chance to visit the restaurant and here we are…
The restaurant looked nice, though to be frank, I did feel that it has had better days – aftereffect of the pandemic situation I guess… One thing I found to be quite interesting is that wall of celebrity mugshots… The menu as with most restaurants these days was in digital format, sent to my phone thru Whatsapp… They had a special Italian Food Festival menu which peaked my interest…
My foodie friend was on the way at this point and so while waiting, I checked out their beverages menu and among the choices, went for their Blackcurrant Mojito which arrived as shown in the pics below… I loved this drink… The flavour of the Blackcurrant was nice and felt it to be well balanced with the flavour of the lemon in it… The level of sweetness was just right for me too in this one…
Coming to the food, I wanted to try the Seafood Ravioli but sadly that was not available… Instead, I opted for their Crab Canape which unfortunately left me with a weird experience… I mean, both me and my friend felt two problems with the dish that was served: 1) Too much mayonnaise for our taste and 2) The meat felt and tasted like Chicken instead of Crab… When we informed the staff, they ended up insisting that the meat was indeed Crab meat and both me and my friend couldn’t believe it cause the texture and taste were exactly like overcooked Chicken shreds… I mean I certainly am not someone who is not familiar with the taste of Crab… Even in this blog, I have posted about crab dishes as well… I couldn’t detect the taste of crab in the dish at all and instead could only detect the taste of mayo with chicken and essentially felt like an open chicken sandwich… I mentioned the same to the staff and I guess seeing that we are probably going to discard the dish, they offered to cancel which I felt was a positive gesture from their part… We agreed to the same and that was the end of that…
Other than the Canape, going to the food festival menu, we chose the Linguine Tossed with Chicken & Vegetables, but the staff who took our order suggested we opt for Spaghetti instead as the pasta for the dish as it might provide a better experience… We obliged and hence the dish became Spaghetti Tossed with Chicken & Vegetables… The following pics show what arrived… First of all, I must say that thats a really healthy proportion of Vegetables to Meat to Pasta and I could feel an incredible aroma of the Olive Oil and the herbs used, as the waitress was serving the dish… The dish appeared to have Spaghetti, Chicken, Vegetables including Zucchini, Bell Peppers, Broccoli and Onions tossed with Garlic, Olive Oil and Pepper seasoning and then topped with some Parsley as well… As for the taste, unlike like the previous dish, both of us ended up loving this one… I felt that the flavours were all very well balanced and over all, the dish felt incredibly flavourful with just the right amount of Olive Oil and seasoning… In fact, I felt that the Vegetables used were freshly cut and retained their crunch along with their flavours… The Chicken was cooked well and seasoned perfectly too… As for the Pasta, the taste was nice and if I were to nitpick, the only problem I felt with this dish was that the Spaghetti was just ever so slightly undercooked if you ask me… By slightly I mean just a few seconds or so apart from being the perfect al dente… Other than that, I felt that this is indeed a classic pasta dish and in-fact one of the best ones available in Trivandrum as far as I have seen…
I had mentioned about the Blackcurrant Mojito that I had while waiting for my friend to arrive… Having heard about the same from me after arrival, my friend went for the same and since I needed one more drink, I went for their Passion Fruit Mojito and they arrived as shown in the pics below… I found it interesting that they served them in the Cricket Shack bottles and got reminded of the fact that the Cricket Shack is now owned by the same team that owns Madison Street… 🙂 As for the taste, my friend ended up liking the Blackcurrant Mojito just like I did… As for the Passion Fruit Mojito, I did end up loving the flavour of the Passion Fruit in it… But unlike the Blackcurrant Mojito that I had, this one ended up being a bit too sweet for my taste… Diluting it a little bit using water made the drink as enjoyable as the Blackcurrant Mojito that I had…
Thats it for now… Overall, I am left with mixed feelings ie, at one end I enjoyed the drinks and the pasta dish very well, while at the other, ended up being disappointed regarding the so called crab dish… But at the same time, as mentioned above, I have really enjoyed the food from this place quite a lot thru home deliveries and hence, was quite surprised at what happened this time… So, I for one am hoping was this was just a bad day this time and that the next time I visit, the experience would be at-least as good as the previous home delivery experiences…
