It has been a long time since I had a Pizza by now and had been craving for the same… Dominos has always been the favourite of my parents and they had been insisting on getting their Pizzas and none other, but unfortunately ever since the pandemic hit, Dominos had stopped delivery to my area (heard that the outlet at Kazhakuttom got closed – not sure)… So, it is today that I noticed this new provider of Pizza called Oven Story Pizza in the delivery apps and seeing that the menu is mostly Indian style pizzas, which my parents prefer, we decided to give it a try and here we are 🙂
So, turns out Oven Story Pizza is another brand under Rebel Foods, couple of other brands from the company we have talked about before… As I was exploring the menu, one thing that felt interesting to see is the idea of Semizza which is basically semi-circular pizza or essentially half a Pizza that can be ordered… So, went for a Paneer Extravaganza Semizza for my mom and a Chicken Tikka & Keema Cheese Burst Pizza for me and my dad… Their pizzas are all 11-inch sized an the Semizzas are basically half of that… Both of them arrived as can be seen in the pic below…
First, lets talk about the Paneer Extravaganza Semizza… As per the menu, this Semizza consists of chunks of Paneer Tikka, along with American Corn, Black Olives, Onion and Mozzarella Cheese… While ordering, as requested by my mom, we chose the Tandoori Cheese option as the type of Cheese and also, Green Bell Peppers, Jalapeño Slices and more American Corn as additional toppings… The resulting Semizza was as shown in the pics below…
Coming to the taste, first of all, the crust felt very soft and when tasted on its own, essentially tasted like Focaccia Bread with the herbs and all in it making me wonder if they are actually using Focaccia Bread as the crust… Turns out both me and my mom ended up liking this idea 🙂 The Paneer Tikka chunks felt nice as in well cooked with not too spicy Tandoori Masala… The vegetables namely the Green Bell Peppers, Jalapeños and the Corn all felt quite crunchy and fresh… I felt that the overall taste appeared to be dominated by two flavours – the Tandoori Masala and Mint… The source of the Tandoori Masala was mostly what felt like a layer of Tandoori Mayo underneath the Mozzarella Cheese and I also felt that they used the Mint Mayo as well which was the source of that Mint flavour… Underneath it all, there was the hint of a Spicy Tomato sauce as well but I felt that the Tandoori and Mint Mayos overpowered it… Also, unlike most pizzas, I didn’t feel any fragrance of Olive oil and/or Oregano in this pizza, but its fine cause its Indian style after all… Overall, both me and my mom ended up liking this Semizza with my mom declaring it as her favourite Pizza option so far…
Next up is the Chicken Tikka & Keema Cheese Burst Pizza… According to the menu, this pizza consists of the classic Tandoori Chicken Tikka along with spicy Chicken Keema on a soft Cheese Burst crust… Again, while ordering, I chose, Green Bell Peppers and Chicken Sausages as extra topping… Unlike the vegetarian Semizza, I wasn’t asked for the choice on type of cheese here… The resulting Pizza was as shown in the pics below…
Coming to the taste, first of all, the Cheese Burst crust reminded me of the same that I have had from Dominos as the taste and texture of the Cheese in the crust felt to be pretty much the same… The crust by itself felt same as in the Focaccia Bread as mentioned before except for the cream cheese filling… The sauce felt like a spicy version of the Tomato sauce that we usually find in pizzas with quite a nice flavour of garlic in it… However, it also felt to be completely infused by the flavour of the spices and herbs used in the Chicken Keema as well as the Chicken Tikka, but without overpowering it… So, altogether felt like a Chicken Tikka Masala gravy, but without all the cream… Both the Chicken Tikka and the Chicken Keema felt to have been cooked perfectly and the Chicken Sausage, although seems like the odd one here, seemed to work together with everything else nonetheless… The onions and green bell peppers (capsicums) retained its crunchiness and provided a refreshing balance to the otherwise overwhelming richness and intensity of the spicy Chicken components and the Cheese and hence I would recommend adding some vegetable toppings to it… Overall Pizza felt to be on the spicy side but that being said, not too spicy for my taste… To be frank, I think this pizza can definitely be considered as one of the best Indian style pizzas that I have ever had…
Along with the Pizzas, we had also ordered a couple of their drinks namely the Jeera Masala Swig and the Green Apple Swig as shown in the pics below… These are sweet aerated soft drinks marketed by Rebel Foods and the Jeera Masala felt like having a Kulukki Sarbath made using the Jal Jeera spice mix and the Green Apple version had a nice flavour of Green Apple… We liked both of them, with the Green Apple one being my favourite among the two…
So, thats it for now… Clearly, our craving for Pizzas ended up being satisfied with especially the craving of my parents for Indian style Pizzas being satisfied quite well… They even said that they prefer these pizzas to any other that they ever had as well and I think this place can be considered as a very good alternative to Dominos thats also more affordable… Need I say more?? So, feel free to check the pizzas from Oven Story Pizza and let me know in the comments section below… 🙂
