A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon an ad about a food provider who claimed to provide healthy home cooked food to Technopark area… I had been looking for such an option to use especially when my parents are out of town… So, they call themselves as Master Of Meals or MOM and when I tried talking to them, got to know that they provide subscription options for people who need food on a regular basis and they are fine with taking up one time orders but such orders need to be placed on the previous day so that they can procure the ingredients accordingly… So, I tried placing the order for a Fish Pothichoru from their lunch menu back then but sadly due to a family emergency of the chef, they couldn’t deliver… But by now they had resumed service and so I finally got to try their Fish Pothichoru today which arrived as shown in the pics below…

So, unpacking the parcel resulted in what can be seen in the pics below… Personally I didn’t like the usage of the “Paper Vazhayila” but of-course for the price, can’t really complain about it… Saw a couple of pieces of Fish Fry on one side and there appeared to be a gravy having Tomato as well… Quantity looked just right for me… The accompanying loose curry turned out to be Pulissery…

So, the Fish Pothichoru had Rice, Fish Fry with Fry Gravy, Cabbage Thoran but made with some lentils in it, Mango Achar, Maluku Kondattam and that gravy with Tomato I first thought it might be Fish Curry Gravy but it felt like the Thakkali Meen Curry which is quite popular in North Kerala… For those who are unaware, the recipe for it is basically you typical Kerala Style Fish Curry with ground Coconut but you skip the Fish and use more Tomato as the sour component in it… Its a nice accompaniment for Rice… And what looked like Pulissery didn’t have any pieces of Cucumber or anything like that… So, I was a bit confused if its really Pulissery or just Kachiya Moru 🙂

Coming to the taste, I must say that this is so far my favourite Pothichoru… First of all, I felt that it really tasted like it was made just like how people cook at home ie, without any flavor enhancements and too much fat content as it is usually how it tends to be in restaurants… I mean we have all seen the hyped video of dosas getting drowned in “ghee”… So, here there is nothing like that… Everything tasted absolutely clean and with just the right amount of seasoning… If I am not mistaken, this might be the very first Pothichoru where I saw the Fry gravy (basically fried bits of the masala rub) along with Fish fry… That was simply yummy… The Fish used seemed like its what we call Paara (the Trevally) and it was a pleasant surprise as its been ages since I last had that fish… The Thakkali Meen Curry was absolutely perfect with just the right amount of sourness from the Tomatoes used… What I felt quite interesting overall is just how well balanced and complementing the flavours were with each other… I mean you get all that savoriness and umami from the Fish and the Fry Gravy as well as the Thakkali Meen… Then freshness you have that Thoran… Then for richness and sourness, you bring in the Pulissery and for the spice kick, there is the Mango Achar and then if you feel like you need a salt kick, they had put in an extra piece of the Mulaku Kondattam… This is one meal where I highly recommend that you just forget the etiquette and mix and mash everything together with your hand and eat as thats when you get the complete taste…

Thats it for now… I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this meal and I am indeed hoping to get this again and try more of their food… If you are working in Technopark or living in nearby areas, feel free to give this a try and let me know in the comments section below 🙂
