Kaffeehaus has been one of my favourite places to go and its also a place I have quite extensively written about here as well… However, its been a long time since I have been to the place thanks to the pandemic and also due to the distance from my home… Finally got the chance to go over there and here we are after the first visit since the pandemic…
My foodie friend was accompanying me on this trip… The menu has clearly changed since my last visit with the introduction of a few new items like Pizza which I had been wanting to try ever since I saw the post announcing its introduction in social networks… So, basically ordered for their special Kaffeehaus Pizza and having seen that they have also started doing Loaded Fries, got the chicken version of the same…. In addition to these two, we had their Birchermüesli as the dessert and also their Cucumber Lemon Juice and Cold Latte to drink… They arrived as can be seen in the pics below…
Now lets talk about each of them and start with the Cucumber Lemon Juice which was served as shown in the pics below… Basically I reached before my friend and so I had this while waiting for her to arrive… I found it to be an incredibly refreshing drink to have especially since I had just walked in from the hot sun… Regarding the taste, I felt that the sweetness was just right for me and had a nice balance of flavours of both Lemon and Cucumber and seemed to have a hint of Mint as well… Overall, we loved this drink…
Next is the Loaded Fries Chicken which was the starter that we had… Both of us like Fries with toppings like Cheese and so it was a no brainer to ask for this one… As per the menu, the Pommes Frites Extra Mit Hühnchen or Loaded Fries Chicken consists of French Fries along with Chicken Sauce, Onion, Tomato, Sour Cream and Green Onions and it came as shown in the pic below…
Regarding the taste, first of all, the Sour Cream at-least to us, didn’t quite taste like Sour Cream at all and instead felt that the flavour was closer to that of Mayonnaise… Hence, we thought maybe its Eggless Mayo that was used… The Fries were absolutely perfect being crispy on the outside while being incredibly soft and creamy in term of texture inside… The Chicken Sauce was clearly Tomato based and had chunks of Chicken in it… It was quite tangy and personally I felt to be slightly saltier than my taste… However the fact the Fries were under-seasoned seemed to balance it out really well… The vegetables which included Onions and Capsicum were indeed fresh and crunchy… The Cream/Mayo provided the cooling element to the whole dish and so when you mix everything up, the flavours are so flawlessly well balanced and the overall seasoning is spot on… Overall, I felt this to be the best version of Loaded Fries that I have ever had from Trivandrum…
Next up is the Pizza… As I mentioned before, I have been wanting to try their Pizza for quite some time… In the menu, there was quite a good selection of Pizzas available and both of us ended up being confused on which to get… So, finally we decided to get their “flagship” pizza which was what they call as the Kaffeehaus Pizza… According to the menu, the Kaffeehaus Pizza is a Pizza made with Tomato Sauce, Mozzarella, Onion, Bell Peppers, Grilled Chicken, Minced Meat and Bacon… It came as shown in the pic below…
Regarding the taste, first of all, people who know me personally know that Chicken is the only meat that I like to eat… But lately, I have been trying to expand my palette and so, have reached the point where I can have Bacon, as long as its crispy and part of say a Sandwich or something like rather than on its own… That is why I decided to go with this pizza… But to be frank, at the same time, for some reason, it didn’t occur to me that “Minced Meat” could very well be Beef and by the time I realised that, the Pizza was already served… However my friend is someone who likes eating Beef and so, I thought just in case I can’t eat this Pizza, she can or if there is too much leftover, she could take it to have later… However, when I tried tasting this Pizza, surprisingly, I couldn’t detect that taste of Beef which I normally get repulsed by… Of-course I could chew and feel its presence, but turns out the Pizza was dominated by the taste of the Tomato Sauce which I guess sort of eclipsed that gaminess of the Beef and left a much more subtle flavour of Beef which I guess is why I had no problem enjoying this Pizza… In addition to the sauce, the flavour of the Bacon felt nice and the Chicken was pretty much eclipsed by the Sauce and Bacon… Of-course, I could feel the taste of the Chicken when I bit into its pieces which felt to be cooked well… Another thing we noted about this Pizza is that the crust was incredibly thin and thanks to the strong flavours of the Sauce, its taste pretty much got eclipsed… However, it felt so light that it literally melted in my mouth… Overall, both me and my friend ended up liking this Pizza…
Next lets talk about the other drink we had, which is called as the Cold Latte… It ended up being a simple cold Coffee drink… After a couple of packets of Sugar, we could enjoy it but to be frank, I think I have had better versions of this elsewhere… That Cucumber Lemon Juice that I talked about earlier remained our favourite…
Last but not the least is the dessert… We tried ordering for another dessert options but sadly it was not available and so I remembered having what they call as the Birchermüesli before and suggested to my friend who agreed… Essentially the Birchermüesli is a healthy and popular Swiss breakfast item… Its based on rolled oats which are soaked overnight in milk or yogurt (or a combination of milk and yogurt) or fruit juice and then typically eaten with Raw Apples (said to be invented as a way to get people to eat them), Nuts, Raisins, etc along with a sweetener like Honey, Maple Syrup, etc… The following pic shows how it was served here…
Regarding the taste, first of all, the sweetener felt to be Honey in this case… The Apple pieces were all sweet, fresh with that crispiness that Apple’s tend to have… The Oats was incredibly creamy with that slight bite and the Yogurt felt to be at just the right amount of sourness to balance the sweetness from the Honey and the Raisins used… Overall, we both enjoyed having this as the dessert…
That’s it for now… It was indeed quite pleasant to visit this place after such a long time… I thoroughly enjoyed everything they served… I still to try my all time favourites that I have written about here before and so am hoping to be able to go back very soon… 🙂
