Rasavada – Pothichoru thru Uber Eats

Recently, I started seeing a new restaurant in my area of Kazhakuttom called Rasavada, which as per location shown in the app is on the way towards Karyavattom…

This was a day I was really craving for a naadan Kerala style meals and the mention of Pothichoru Specials in the menu of Rasavada Restaurant peaked my interest… So, decided to try it and as I was placing the order I found options where I choose between Vegetarian Pothichoru, Pothichoru with Egg, Pothichoru having Fish and also an option where you get both Egg and Fish… I went for the option having both Egg and Fish… Also, having learned from previous experience with Pothichoru options from other sources, I also ordered their Trivandrum Style Fish Curry and also their Netholi Fish Fry…

Uber Eats did a nice job of delivering on time and the pic below shows what arrived…

Lets first talk about the Pothichoru came with a portion of Rice, Beetroot Pachadi, Lime Pickle, Cabbage Throan, Aviyal, Chammanthi, an Omlette, a Fish Fry and it was accompanied with some Sambar, Fish Curry Gravy and Mooru Curry / Pulissery…

I really did this Pothichoru… The Chemba rice was cooked perfectly… The Beetroot Pachadi was my favourite of the lot having been seasoned perfectly… Aviyal and Cabbage Thoran was fine and the Lime Pickle was awesome with the rest… However I found the Chammanthy to be a bit bland… I didn’t try the Pulissery since I saw pieces of Pineapple in it which I am unfortunately allergic to, but the Sambar felt quite rich in flavours of the vegetables especially the flavour of Carrots, Tomato and Drumstick (Moringa)… The Fish gravy had a rich flavour of Coconut and Drumstick along with the flavour of Fish itself… The Omlette was as one could expect but however, the Fish Fry made with the fish known here as the Koziyala ended up being fried too long and hence became dried on the inside and hence a bit tough to break apart and to chew… Anyways, this Pothichory did indeed satisfy my craving for the Kerala Meals and I am looking forward to having it again soon…

As mentioned above, along with the Pothichoru, I did get their Trivandrum Style Fish Curry and a portion of their Netholi Fish Fry as well… They came as shown in the pics below…

First of all, it was very clear that the Fish Curry Gravy given along with the Pothichoru was indeed the gravy of their Trivandrum Style Fish Curry itself… This is not a spicy curry as the spice levels are mild in my opinion… The curry had a couple of pieces of Sardines in it and as mentioned before, the flavour profile was dominated by the taste of Coconut and the Drumstick (Moringa) and the flavour of the Fish comes only below that… This is a great Fish Curry to mix in with the Rice… 🙂

However, unfortunately, it was not all good news with the Netholi Fry… I have no complaints about the seasoning and the masala (Chilli powder, Turmeric powder) but what I had issue with is the cooking of the Fish, which again felt to be fried for too long resulting it them being tough to chew…

So, altogether it was a wonderful lunch for me… The amount of rice was a bit too much for me… However, taste wise, I can say that I really enjoyed it and I am indeed looking forward to having the Pothichoru again and also try the rest of their menu too hopefully soon…
