Pizza Trail – Supreme All Spice

A while ago, I was looking for a Chicago style deep dish pizza option in Trivandrum and on searching for in the foodie groups in facebook pretty much gave me Supreme All Spice is the only option in Trivandrum (if you know of any other place, pls let me know)… However, the same result from the groups was saying that the flavours are not as good as how you get in Chicago but it is a proper deep dish pizza… So, when I got the chance to visit All Spice, I decided to try their Pizza this time…

There are only a few options when it comes to Pizza, which is understandable considering that this is not a Pizza exclusive place… Among the options, what caught my eye is what they call as their Murgh Makhani Pizza… I have never had an Indian Deep Dish pizza although I have had the regular hand tossed crust kind of Indian Pizzas back when I used to live in Mumbai… So, being solo, I went for their “Kid” size, which as the waiter informed is a personal size pizza that comes as four pieces… They have a “Regular” which is as bad the plate they serve the pizza in and comes cut into 8 pieces… Now, if it was a thin crust of that size, I could manage to eat it, but Deep Dish Pizzas tend to be heavy… So, I stuck with the Kid size…

In addition to the Kid Sized Murgh Makhani Pizza, I also went for the drink which they call as Orange Fizzy… Both came as shown in the pics below…

First, lets talk about the Orange Fizzy drink… This is something I like to have and I do end up getting this every time I visit the place… Basically this is whats known as the Ice Cream Float which is basically made by adding a scoop of Ice Cream as a topping to a carbonated soft drink like Coke, Pepsi and in this orange version, the Mirinda 🙂

Although it didn’t affect the taste, instead of a float, since the Ice Cream used is the Softy kind, the Ice Cream sank to the bottom… As you drink it using the straw you get to experience the taste of both the Vanilla Ice Cream along with the Orange soda ie, the Mirinda that was used here… I felt the Ice Cream used to be quite rich in the flavour of Vanilla… However, there is a risk with this drink and its that you can’t leave it for long and should drink it as soon as you get it… The reason is that the acidic content from the Orange soda ends up leaving the melting ice cream to split and thats not a pleasant experience to drink it then…

Next up is the Pizza that I ordered, which is the Kid sized version of their Murgh Makhni Pizza… It came as shown in the pics below…

Murgh Makhani Pizza

According to the menu, this is basically a Pizza that comes topped with chunks of Chicken cooked in Makhni gravy and freshly chopped onions… So, essentially this would be a Pizza topped with the Murgh Makhani curry and some chopped onions as well… For those who are unaware, the Murgh Makhani, otherwise known as Butter Chicken is a dish that was invented at the Moti Mahal restaurant at Daryaganj, Delhi… Its made by cooking Chicken marinated for several hours in yogurt, lime juice and spices (usually, its garam masala, turmeric, ginger, garlic, cumin, pepper and chillies) by grilling in tha tandoor oven and then finishing off in a mildly spiced (cardomom, fenugreek, cloves, cinnamon, pepper, coriander, etc) tomato and onion based gravy using Butter and then garnished with Cream and Coriander leaves… It has a signature taste of being both sweet and spicy and then along with it the richness of the cream and butter and some versions use cashew and/or badam paste in the gravy which makes it richer further…

Ofcourse being a deep dish pizza, it looked like instead of the usual pizza sauce, they used the Murgh Makhani curry  and then it was topped with some Cheese, Cream and was also topped with some finely chopped Cilantro / Coriander Leaves as well, I guess sticking to the Indian theme in this Pizza…

Well, I have had their Murgh Makhani before as part of their platter containing it with their Butter Naan… Its the same gravy for both which is rich in flavour of Butter, Cream, Cinnamon, Cardomom, Cloves along with Tomatoes, Onion and ofcourse the Chicken… The Chicken was cooked perfectly and was seasoned quite well… This particular version of the Murgh Makhani felt to be dominated by the taste and richness of the cream… What I liked the best about this Pizza is the base itself… Because unlike most places where you get a crispy or stretchy base, here what I got felt more like a base made up of Breakfast Muffin and ofcourse as can be seen from the color in the pics above, it was cooked perfectly as well making it easy to eat using a knife and fork… Another thing I noticed is that the amount of Cheese used in this Pizza is quite minimal and I think its because they use Cream as well on the top…

Altogether, this was definitely one of the best Pizzas I have even had and hence a very deserving candidate to be included in my Pizza Trail series… I do hope to go back there very soon and try the rest of the Pizza options… Fingers crossed… 🙂
