Got the DVD of the movie Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum from the supermarket and finally watched the movie… As you may already know, the movie has been in the limelight for quite some time especially because of its casting of actual police officers to be as realistic as possible… The movie was directed by Dileesh Pothan and has a cast including Suraj Venjarammood, Fahad Fazil and Alancier Ley Lopez… The music was done by popular music director Bijipal with lyrics from the popular lyricist Raffeq Ahammed… The film was released in June 2017…

The film takes up along the journey of Prasad, played by Suraj Venjarammoodu and his wife Sreeja, played by Nimisha Sajayan as they fall in love, get married and consequently being forced to move to Kasargod where along a journey a thief played by Fahad Fazil snaches her gold chain and they arrive at their local police station to file a complaint… The story then goes on to show the police officers investigating the case thru a series of events eventually resulting in the couple getting back the chain…
To me, the film felt like an eye opener on how a police station especially in a remote location functions… It also somewhat sheds light on the reality of how sometimes the ones who are there to file a complaint gets harassed by the officer who doesn’t want the trouble of investigating the case and/or tries his best to have the complainant doubt the incident he/she experienced/saw so as to have the complaint withdrawn as if a case gets registered only if there is absolutely no way to avoid it… 🙂
However, what struck me the most when I saw the story progressing is that the film appeared to highlight the concept that when it comes to the workings of the Police, things are not binary as in black or white but rather there are grey areas which the officers get forced into traversing in order to ensure that justice prevails and also to save their careers… For example there is a scene where thief manages to escape for a while and the stolen chain goes missing… And then for both ensuring justice as well as to save themselves from the consequences of a failed investigation, they decide to plant another gold chain and ask the complainant to identify it as the missing one so that the culprit ends up getting punished… So, altogether a really nice movie with an engaging screenplay and ultra-realistic mind-blowing performances by the actors, thats a must-watch… I’ll definitely give it a 5 out of 5… 🙂
